Anti-corruption student rally outside eX

In observance of the UN-sanctioned international anti-corruption day, students and the general public took to the streets to show their stance against corruption that’s become endemic in many aspects of Indonesian society. The people are demanding answers for the missing Rp 6.7T spent in “bailing out” Bank Century. The President’s unconvincing stance on the issue left the people wondering if he’s involved somehow. There are also calls for the new VP and the Economics Minister to step down due to their alleged roles in the case.

Toni Jack’s

Photos from the grand opening of the brand new pirate themed Toni Jack’s franchise which replaced the 13 Bambang Rachmadi-owned former McDonald’s outlets. Hilarity ensued when throngs of patrons entered the restaurant expecting to order Big Macs and McChicken combos. Some shied away, others braved against confusion out of hunger.

Even more hilarity:
Slogan is “Better than That One”. Apparently Rachmadi went to the same school of tact as John McCain 😀 Combo packs are called Marah 1, Marah 2, Marah 3, etc. Literally Angry 1, 2, 3. I just giggled at the counter at the sight of the menu. No idea why pirates are so angry 😉

However I am impressed at the professionality of the staff and the speed of their service. The former McCafé is now called T-Jack’s. Already people are mashing it up with the bus service TransJakarta which happen to have a platform just outside.

One last thing, I can’t help but compare it to Burger King or better known in Australia as Hungry Jack’s (different franchise from BK but identical in every way – long story).
BK/HJ have better and bigger burgers but TJ is a lot cheaper. TJ is more like them than McDonald’s.
