The entertainment industry has always been about protecting its revenue, never about the consumers.

The introduction of new technology is always disruptive to existing markets, particularly to content/copyright owners whose sell through well-established distribution channels. The incumbents tend to have short-sighted goals and often fail to recognize that more money can be made on new platforms and new distribution channels.

Henry Cavill is the next Superman

Looks like future Superman director Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead, 300, Watchmen) has found his Clark Kent in British actor Henry Cavill. After Christian Bale was picked as the most recent Batman, Cavill makes it two for two for the British takeover of America’s best known comic-book heroes. Cavill will star in the reboot of the Superman franchise set for release in 2012.

“Adapting” Avatar

Avatar just won Best Picture and Best Director yesterday at the Golden Globes. I don’t think this Indonesian “adaptation” by LunarFilm titled “Petualangan Bersama Suku Biru” (Adventure With the Blue Tribe) aired mere minutes ago on TPI can be described as anything complimentary.

There’s a handful of clips I’m thinking of sharing next time I’m in range of a decent Internet access.

Low on Gore, Big on Eye Candy

…the special effects fail to give any real credibility to this grisly movie. The slashing seems unrealistic, the flayed wounds look dry and unconvincing, and for a movie that is supposedly a bloodbath, this 80-minute thriller just doesn’t show enough red liquid.”
