Let this be untrue

Received a disturbing message today in my inbox but I need someone to verify this claim.

“Ketua DPW PKS DIY Ahmad Sumiyanto mengatakan SBY & Partai Demokrat sdh bersedia menandatangani kontrak politik yg berisi 10 Agenda Pembangunan yg disusun berdasarkan platform PKS.

(Sumber: Koran Kedaulatan Rakyat hal 3 edisi Sabtu 30 Mei 2009).”

If true, this will spell the absolute end of the illusion that Indonesia is a supposedly open-minded nation and throws away everything that put this country together including the constitution and Pancasila, the five pillars of the nation.

This is what’s been bugging me the past two days

Was just reminded why there’s something about work that I needed to attend today but can’t remember all week.

This past two days I’ve been so absentminded. I’ve called someone with the wrong name, I left one place to go to another thinking there’s an event in that other place when in fact the event was right next door to the first place so I had to trek back, I forgot I have two phones, I misplaced several items, and so on.

No Whedon No Buffy = No Giger No Alien?

If people are up in arms about the new Buffy movie without Whedon and the Scooby gang, you all should do the same if the new Alien movie doesn’t have either Weaver or designs by or influenced by H.R Giger’s work. Why? Because IT’S JUST NOT ALIEN!

Will it involve Giger or Weaver? Perhaps, perhaps not, but I’m hoping it does at least either one. If it’s a prequel, I’m not sure how Weaver would come in to play, I mean it might even be… *shock horror*… without Ripley right?
As for Buffy, I’m keeping my mind open. I mean the Kuzuis are probably seeing green after the success of Twilight and the popularity of True Blood, but Buffy would never have taken off the way it did had the genius that is Joss Whedon wasn’t heavily involved in the TV series. The whole adolescent vampire scene may not even be popular today if it wasn’t for BtVS TV series. For Buffy to be remade simply because Twilight was popular is rather ridiculous and obviously it’s less about the story. The thing about Twilight is, it’s pretty much Buffy repackaged.
Buffy will always be Buffy and the Scooby Gang.
This new movie without Whedonverse would be a completely different Buffy. In my eyes, it may just be another teen-vampire flick that happens to share the same name.
On the flip side, this may spark comparisons with the James Bond series. No Connery = No Bond? Hey, Daniel Craig made it work, so did Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan. In fact, this new Buffy could be the Daniel Craig version (or it could be Timothy Dalton or George Lazenby).
Most people seemed to want this reboot to fail out of their love of the brilliant and funny Buffy universe that Joss Whedon created. I’d like to see it first.

Apple’s cafetaria menu online (well, was)

So yesterday a friend mentioned that he spotted something pretty neat about Apple and sent a link. I couldn’t write about this earlier due to the print deadline at work so I asked if anyone else at Macworld would pick it up and someone did.
Apple has been known to do neat things from time to time. Early on, they had a limited edition Macintosh that had the signatures of all of the Mac’s development team members. The commissioned a video of animated iMac G4s playing volleyball at the beach for its launch back in 2002. Even the iMac G4’s ad was quite endearing. Who could forget the launch of both the original Mac and the original iMac?
That link I received led to a web app of the menus at Caffè Macs, Apple’s cafeteria for employees at their Infinite Loop, Ridge View, Austin, and Sacramento A and B campuses. In true Apple style, the main page is clean with only the necessary items displayed. It could not be more straightforward.
It has a drop down menu to select the campus you’re on and a list of menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Selecting one would lead you to a list of meals complete with description, ingredients and price. They even have daily specials though there was nothing on specials when I checked.
While it was rather neat to have a peek at the things inside Apple, Inc. even if it was just a cafeteria menu, I’m more intrigued at the idea of putting a restaurant’s menu online and formatted for mobile devices. How great would it be to be able to look at your favorite restaurants’ menu on your phone and know beforehand what you would like to order once you get there? Even better would be if said menu can be used to actually place an order for either eat in, take away or delivery, provided the proper measures are in place to prevent prank orders obviously.
I took a couple of screenshots of how the menu looked like on the iPhone, check them out below. Unfortunately, moments before I began composing this entry, I found out that the menu was taken offline. The original link now leads to Apple’s home page.

Something about this book seems to always draw Fara to it. She kept picking it up from the shelf.
