Blast from the past

Doesn’t look like an ad commissioned or done by Apple, it’s simply way too busy and messy. My guess is it was done by one of the local distributors.

Today, this ad won’t have made it through Apple’s marcomm.

Why the president won reelection

My wife overheard a conversation today that perhaps was said in a humorous tone but it could well be the reason why Yudhoyono, presidential candidate number two of three, won by a landslide.

About 60% of the national votes went to the Yudhoyono + Boediono pair and they won in 24 out of 33 provinces based on the quick count method.

The guy said, “number one, you open the ballot paper, number two, you mark it, number three, you fold it back.”

I just sat there with my jaw on the floor.

As The App Store Turns 1*

Apple’s App Store turns one year old this Saturday. Officially it was opened on July 11 2008 along with the launch of iPhone OS 2.0, MobileMe, and iPhone 3G.
In one year, Apple’s App Store for iPhone OS devices has amassed more than 50 thousand apps, more than a billion downloads, shot independent developers to prominence, help took Twitter mainstream with the dozens of Twitter iPhone apps, gave us this amazing visualization at this year’s WWDC, and spurns imitations from other mobile platform vendors
In celebration of this anniversary, Apple has put together a list of their 12 favorite apps and games.
Happy Birthday App Store!
*homage to the classic and loved As The Apple Turns site, sadly long gone

Viva, Fox, and the Democrats

Was just checking out Fox Indonesia’s website and read the profile of its big guns.

I can say most people who pay attention to these things would know about it already but if you haven’t, check out the profiles. Yes, Fox Indonesia is run by the Mallarangeng brothers, probably the biggest family name in Indonesian politics right now.

Andi is the President’s spokesperson and senior consultant in the company, Rizal pretended to run for president but now bats for the (Indonesian) Democrats, and less publicly known Choel is the CEO.

This firm that advises the Democrats has a CEO who runs a news portal that is part of a media group that happens to be partially owned by the Star TV network which is part of a media empire better known as Fox.

Am I stretching it? 😀

If it’s all too serious for ya, check out this page. By the way, Jasmine Valentine kind of looks like this guy.

update: One Google search later revealed Rizal also runs the group’s news portal as President Commissioner. ‘Scuse me for forgetting this 6 month old tidbit.

Tumblr is most satisfying if you can give up a bit of the self-hosting/self-built motivations. It’s hard for programmers. (Even was for me.)

Reward: you don’t have to build it or maintain it or upgrade it yourself, and you get features that self-hosted/built platforms can’t offer.

Flash CS4 even breaks its web safe palette

adobegripes:

As if the Flash CS4 colour palette could get any worse… the crappy “web safe” colours are not even correct. I’d say I was shocked but really there are so many UI fuckups in that version that nothing surprises me anymore and I haven’t even started on that font menu which is horrendous.

Thanks Aldorr and Tim
